E-Ink E-Paper
What is the E Ink Display?
E Ink (Electronic Ink), also known as e-paper, ePaper, or electronic paper, is a bistable display technology that mimics the appearance of traditional paper. It uses microcapsules containing charged pigment particles, which rearrange under an electric field to produce text and images. Unlike normal screens, E Ink retains content without power, only consuming energy during refreshes.
Difference Between E-Ink and Normal Displays
The key difference is that E-Ink reflects ambient light like paper, eliminating backlight-induced eye strain, while LCDs emit light (including blue light) directly into your eyes.
Feature | E-Ink Display | Normal Display (LCD/OLED) |
---|---|---|
Power Use | Near-zero when static | Constant power draw |
Refresh Rate | Low (100–500ms) | High (1–240Hz) |
Visibility | Sunlight-readable, no glare | Glare-prone, backlight-dependent |
Color | Monochrome, color variants | Full color |
Light Emission | Reflects ambient light | Emits backlight |
Eye Strain | Minimal (paper-like) | High (blue light emission) |
